The Frischezentrum Frankfurt opened in June 2004, replacing the old inner-city Grossmarkthalle that now forms part of the European Central Bank site. It covers about thirteen hectares near the A5 and A661 motorway interchange and is one of Germany's most modern fresh-food wholesale parks, gathering wholesalers of fruit, vegetables, flowers and frozen goods, though the tenant count has yet to be confirmed. It serves the Rhine-Main metropolitan region.
The center wholesales and distributes fruit, vegetables, flowers and chilled or frozen foods, next to Frankfurt Airport's air-cargo transit routes. For Chinese food and fresh-produce exporters, it is a contact point with central German import wholesalers and a route into the air-cold-chain channel. The site's proximity to the airport and motorways suits companies exporting chilled, frozen or high-value food products, and the wholesale customers there typically buy in container-scale volumes for regional redistribution.
