Mesa Redonda, in the historic centre of Lima, is Peru's largest wholesale emporium for general merchandise, gifts, toys and festive supplies. Its 29-block commercial area hosts more than 18,000 formal merchants, according to the local chamber of entrepreneurs, and can receive around 450,000 visitors a day during the Christmas season. Located near jirón Huallaga and jirón Ayacucho, it has long specialised in cheap imported goods from Asia sold by the dozen to resellers nationwide; municipal regulations now delimit the area to manage informal street trading.
The district is the country's dozen-unit wholesale market for household goods, toys, costumes, stationery, small electronics and bags, with annual peaks before Christmas and New Year. Chinese exporters of daily-use products, toys and festive gifts will find a ready reseller base here. Caveats: informal street vendors crowd the sidewalks and fire-safety concerns are documented, so business visits should concentrate on formal commercial galleries, be scheduled in daytime, and include sample and customs-document checks.
