Sampheng is a historic wholesale street in Bangkok's Chinatown, Samphanthawong District, formally known as Soi Wanit 1. Settled by Teochew Chinese merchants since the founding of Bangkok in 1782, the narrow lane of about one kilometer is lined with hundreds of shops and stalls and has functioned as a wholesale trading street for over two centuries. It remains an active, working small-commodity distribution hub in the Thai capital.
The lane specializes in costume jewelry, fashion accessories, toys and stationery, ribbons and beads, small household items and mobile phone accessories, often with minimum order quantities. Buyers are retailers, night-market vendors and small cross-border traders from across Thailand and neighboring countries. For Chinese exporters, it is a key venue to study Thailand's small-commodity wholesale trade and to meet importers of accessories and daily-use goods.
