Deira, along the Dubai Creek, is Dubai's oldest traditional wholesale quarter, centered on Souq Al Kabeer, whose history dates back to 1850, and spreading through the Naif, Murshid Bazaar and Al Ras streets. A dense community of general-trading wholesalers sells textiles, garment trimmings, electronics, spices, metal kitchenware and household goods. For centuries the district has handled re-export trade with India, Africa and East Asia, and remains a working mixed wholesale and retail market today.
The streets organize themselves by category: Naif is dense with mobile-phone and electronics accessories wholesalers, the Murshid and old cloth markets specialize in fabric and garment wholesale, while Al Ras is the spice and dry-goods hub. For Chinese exporters this district is a traditional gateway to local general traders and Gulf retail channels, well suited to clothing, small appliances, hardware sundries and light-textile products sold in bulk to regional distributors.
