The Grand Bazaar of Tehran lies in the city's old District 12 and is Iran's largest traditional trading hub. Its lanes specialize in copperware, paper, gold, spices, carpets and cloth, housing wholesalers, warehouses, workshops and banks under one sprawling roof. Many manufacturers deal directly with major wholesale and retail buyers here, making it the key distribution point for domestic and imported goods in Iran.
The bazaar mixes wholesale and retail with tightly organized guilds, and its carpet, textile, spice and traditional dry-goods trades are the largest in the country. For Chinese exporters it is the primary window onto Iranian importers and distributors and the Iranian consumer market. Given the international payments environment, actual settlement and trade terms need to be agreed directly with local wholesalers.
