Rua 25 de Março, in the historic centre of São Paulo, is the largest street-based wholesale district in Latin America. What began as a textile quarter settled by Jewish, Lebanese, Syrian and later Korean merchants is today a dense network of the main street plus adjoining lanes and covered galleries, packed with thousands of small shops. It is built first and foremost for small Brazilian shop owners and street vendors restocking in bulk, with fabric, costume jewellery, party supplies, phone accessories, stationery and Carnival costumes selling at wholesale prices. Near Praça do Patriarca, reachable from São Bento or Luz metro stations.
The district specialises in apparel fabrics, fashion accessories, party and festive supplies, mobile phone accessories, toys, stationery and cheap imported consumer goods — categories in which Chinese exporters are highly competitive. Many stores here act as distributors of Chinese-made goods across Brazil, making it a key entry point for Chinese daily-use, gift and toy manufacturers wanting to reach second- and third-tier Brazilian resellers. Buyers come from all over the country on weekday mornings for bulk restocking; small-business owners negotiate quantity discounts.
