Founded in 1919 by Jewish immigrant entrepreneurs, Barrio Siete de Agosto in Bogotá's Barrios Unidos district grew into an open-air automotive commercial ecosystem. According to Semana magazine, it is one of the largest auto-parts centers in Latin America: an organized ecosystem of original and certified parts dealers, specialized repair workshops and importers offering a complete value chain from diagnosis and repair to spare-parts supply. National press also notes some informal parts trade alongside the dominant formal merchant base — buyers should ask for invoices and verify provenance.
The district sells original and replacement parts for gasoline and diesel vehicles, motorcycle parts, plus electromechanical repair and diagnostics; many importers distribute in volume to workshops and second-tier auto-parts shops. For Chinese exporters of filters, brake pads, electrical components, turbochargers and lighting, it is the core entry point to Colombia's automotive aftermarket; verify supplier credentials and tax invoices, and prioritize formal importers given the informal segment.
