Crawford Market, officially Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Mandai, is a landmark colonial-era market building completed in 1869 next to Mumbai's CSTM railway station. Inside, halls are divided into sections for fruit, vegetables, dry fruits, spices, poultry and imported delicacies, with early-morning wholesale trade in fresh produce and spices leading the day (number of traders to be verified). The Victorian Gothic building remains one of Mumbai's most photographed market landmarks, yet its commercial life is firmly wholesale-oriented rather than a tourist-only attraction.
Besides being a heritage landmark, it remains a key fresh-produce and dry-goods wholesale hub in old Mumbai, gathering wholesalers of fruit, nuts, spices, condiments and imported foodstuffs.
