Nippori Fabric Town stretches about one kilometer along Nippori Chuo-dori from the east exit of JR Nippori Station and is home to more than ninety fabric and craft-material shops. It grew from the 1950s out of a cluster of textile wholesalers, and today serves professional tailors, garment-industry workers and hobbyists alike, with fabrics sold in both wholesale and retail quantities.
The street deals in fabrics, linings, buttons, ribbons and tailoring notions, supplying Japanese garment workshops and small brands. For Chinese textile and notions exporters, it is a window into Japanese fabric aesthetics and a place to meet professional wholesalers. Many shops sell to professional dressmakers, sample ateliers and small clothing brands as well as hobbyists, and trade buyers account for a large share of volume, so Chinese fabric and trim makers can approach the wholesale houses directly with sample collections.
