Overshoot for commercial heating elements should be fixed from the real duty rather than copied from the supplier catalogue. Record the full heating curve at rated voltage, actual load and installed orientation, then take the maximum steady-state deviation above setpoint as the overshoot, and cap it by the maximum sheath temperature allowed by diameter, watt density and sheath material. Sensor location and system thermal inertia set the lag, so the control cycle, PID settings or on-off frequency must be checked together to avoid extra overshoot from poor tuning. For acceptance, measure the residual-heat peak after power-off and write wattage, protection class, mounting dimensions and overshoot tolerance into the acceptance terms, judging against agreed tolerances and asking the supplier for a tested curve under the same conditions.
