How should fin design be specified for industrial heating elements?
Start from the actual duty, not a catalog label: calculate required power and surface load, then fix tube diameter, sheath material, fin height, pitch and thickness. Denser fins raise heat transfer area and lower sheath temperature but increase air resistance, dust build-up and pressure drop, so match them to fan static pressure, face velocity and cleaning method. Dusty or corrosive sites need wider pitch, corrosion-resistant material and a stated allowable pressure drop. Verify electrical readings, temperature spread, fit and protection response at acceptance, and record fin dimensions, tolerances and test conditions on a revision-controlled drawing as the only basis for replacement.
