How should field replacement be specified for industrial heating elements?
For field replacement, first check the original element's rated wattage, sheath diameter, sheath material, surface loading, and termination one by one, then re-verify the selection against actual duty, including the heated medium, system pressure, flow rate, and control method, rather than copying the nameplate alone; ask the supplier for the heated and cold-end length layout if needed. Before removal, isolate power, relieve pressure, and cool to a safe temperature, then inspect flange or threaded sealing faces, insulation resistance, and grounding. After fitting, measure cold resistance first, ramp up gradually, and check that current and temperature rise match the approved drawing, confirming the protection rating, control interlock, and over-temperature trip operate correctly; finally file the measured values with the drawing.
