How should maintenance interval be specified for industrial heating elements?
Set the maintenance interval from power density, sheath diameter and material, surface load, ingress protection, and the fouling or corrosion rate of the medium, not from a fixed calendar. Define checkpoints for insulation resistance, terminal temperature rise, oxide and scale thickness, and mechanical distortion, then adjust them against cumulative operating hours and start-stop cycles. A rising leakage current or drifting control temperature calls for early shutdown and re-inspection. At selection, confirm rated voltage, wiring method, and heated length with the supplier; during installation keep the effective heated section fully immersed, prevent dry firing, allow cooling space at the cold end, and place the temperature sensor close to the heated zone with regular calibration. Record cold insulation resistance, withstand voltage, and no-load current at acceptance as a baseline for later comparison. Any rating change requires re-verifying mounting geometry, electrical conditions, and thermal performance.
